Raiders Collect Competitive Win on the Road

FREMONT, Neb. – Alex Van Kalsbeek moved into second on Northwestern's all-time scoring list as No. 7 Northwestern escaped Midland on the road in a 74-71 win.

The first half saw a closely contested matchup between the teams, with both maintaining an active presence on the floor. The Red Raiders started strong, with Kaleb Booth contributing significantly, scoring multiple three-pointers, including one at the 1:51 mark to give them a lead. Alex Van Kalsbeek was a key player, leading with points in the paint and securing a pair of free throws to extend the Raiders' lead before the Warriors closed the gap, ending the half with a slim advantage of 36-33.

In the second half, the Raiders overcame a slow start to secure a lead against the Warriors with a final score of 41-35 for the half. Jesse Van Kalsbeek and Alex Van Kalsbeek were instrumental, combining for multiple key plays, including a crucial dunk by Jesse at 4:32 and a strong layup by Alex at 1:15. The Raiders' defensive efforts were highlighted by Jalen Langsy's block and several defensive rebounds, allowing them to maintain control and extend their lead despite the Warriors' attempts to close the gap. One final attempt from deep for the Warriors missed the mark as the Raiders escaped with a road GPAC win.

"I thought our guys really battled in the second half. You know, I've used this line through the years, but I had a wise man tell me every win on the road in the GPAC is a great win. We're going to celebrate it and we certainly made it known to our guys that we're going to celebrate every one of them on the road," head coach Kris Korver stated.

Despite a poor shooting night by the team's NAIA-leading offensive standards, Northwestern made crucial plays late to erase a second-half deficit.

"The bottom line is that's the game of basketball, shooting every once in a while is going to not be there. You've got to continue to defend and rebound and make all those winning plays aside from putting the ball in the basket. It wasn't pretty, but we did enough," Korver added.
