Last-Second Effort Comes Short as Unbeaten Streak Ends

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In a top-15 matchup inside a packed Bultman Center, a late comeback effort fell short as No. 3 Northwestern endured its first loss of the season.

Northwestern took an early lead in the first half with Kaleb Booth opening the scoring with a layup and a three-pointer to put his team ahead 5-3. Jesse Van Kalsbeek contributed significantly with multiple defensive rebounds and a layup, helping the Raiders maintain their edge. The half remained competitive, with the Raiders regaining the lead at 37-36 just before the end, as Zach LaFave hit a crucial three assisted by Jalen Langsy to round out the half.

During the second half, Van Kalsbeek contributed significantly, scoring 17 points, including a key layup at 11:42 to tie the game at 50. Alex Van Kalsbeek also played a vital role, scoring with a layup at 10:17 to narrow the gap to 43-41 and again at 3:48 to bring the score to 67-58, while Marcus Kelderman hit a crucial three-pointer at 2:30 to tie the game at 53.

With Dordt holding a 10-point lead with 1:31 on the clock, Conner Geddes cut the deficit back to single digits with a triple, setting the stage for an exciting finish. Jesse Van Kalsbeek then took over, scoring the final 11 Red Raider points and hitting a deep three to make it 77-75 with less than 10 seconds remaining. After Dordt split the free throws, the Raiders had one more opportunity, getting an open look and drawing iron, however the Raiders did not convert, falling 78-75.
