SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The No. 1 ranked Raiders defeated Dordt in straight sets Saturday night in Sioux Center.
NWC 3, DORDT 0 (25-19, 25-18,25-18)
How it Happened
Northwestern got off to a quick start early in set one, charging out to a 10-5 lead on an Alysen Dexter kill. The Raiders continued their aggressiveness with an all-around attack from the floor, stretching their lead to 19-11 late in the set. A combination of great offense and intense defense contributed to a strong finish in the first set as the Raiders took a 1-0 advantage with a 25-19 win.
Both teams stayed neck-and-neck to open set two before the Raiders, led by Jazlin Douma, went on a 5-1 run to grow the lead to 18-12, prompting a timeout by Dordt. Northwestern came out of the timeout without missing a beat as Savonne Sterk and Maddy Sampson teamed up to deny Dordt at the net. The Defenders tried to claw their way back into the set, but it was too little, too late as the Raiders took a commanding advantage in the match with a 25-18 win in set two.
Set three saw the Raiders jump out to a quick 14-8 lead on a Zavyr Metzger kill and an Alysen Dexter service ace before Dordt stormed back to tie the set at 14 a piece. Consecutive kills by Savonne Sterk and Jazlin Douma proved to be just what the Raiders needed to weather the storm as Northwestern closed out the match on a 5-2 run to take set three 25-18.
