National Marks and School Records Highlight GPAC Championships

ORANGE CITY, Iowa –  The Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by your Red Raiders was the best time for performances to be their best, and the Raiders did not disappoint. Personal records, National Marks, and even school records would be hit as the women would leave their all on the track. The women's 4x800m Relay would hit the NAIA Provisional mark in their 2nd place finish, running 9:31.43, the team made up of Savonne Sterk, Emily Haverdink, Abby Ervin, and Caitlin Jacobsma. Emma Haley would once again lower her own school record in the 3000m steeplechase on her way to a 4th place finish in a time of 11:44.25. Kennedy Kramer would run a huge PR in the 400m dash, getting 2nd place and hitting the NAIA Automatic mark in a time of 56.48. She would be .02 off of the school record. Kramer would come back at the end of the meet to anchor the 4x400m relay, joined by Emma Blum, Sterk and Caitlin Ostbye, to run one of the fastest relays in school history in their 2nd place finish in 3:52.16, also hitting the NAIA Auto Mark. Getting 3rd, Jacie VanderWaal would re-hit the NAIA Provisonal mark of 1.65m in the high jump as well.

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays:
Starting the day off on Friday was the 100m hurdles where Charlee Olson would make the finals, ranked 8th, in a PR time of 15.42. She would follow that performance on Saturday, in the finals, with a time of 15.43 to retain the 8th place finish. Right after, in the 100m dash, Ostbye would run 12.41, her fastest time since surgery 2 years ago, to make the finals and rank 8th. She would run 12.45 in the finals on Saturday to retain that 8th place. In the 400m Dash, Kramer would be joined on the podium by Blum in 8th place in a time of 1:00.27. The 400m hurdles, a truly grueling event, would be attacked by hurdle specialist Emma Zoet. She would finish the race 6th with a season best time of 1:06.41. The 4x100m relay, made up of Grace Hendrickson who ran a PR 100m dash the day before, Marissa Hackman who would run a PR 400m dash later that day, Ostbye, and Blum, would narrowly miss the podium in their 4th place finish in a time fo 48.63.

Distance:
After the 4x800m performance on Friday evening, Ervin would be back on Saturday for the open 800m, where she would run a lifetime best of 2:21.38 to 6th place, her highest placing ever at the GPAC Championships. Also coming back from the relay performance was Jacobsma to tackle the 1500m run. She ran 4:54.80, narrowly missing her PR by .43 as she ran to 5th place, also her highest GPAC Championship placing ever.

Jumps/Throws:
Highlighting the field events was VanderWaal in the high jump with her 3rd place finish and NAIA Provisonal Mark in the high jump. Allie Hough would tie her PR in the pole vault at 9'8" or 2.95m. Olson would narrowly be beaten out in the long jump by .03m in the long jump to finish 9th. Jordan Bjork would narrowly miss a PR in the discus to finish 14th, and the same placing in the javelin. Hendrickson, running a PR 100m dash, would be pulled back and forth to the javelin and finish in 9th place.
