Raiders Grab Two Wins Over Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa – The No. 11-ranked Northwestern softball team took a break from GPAC play to face (RV) Grand View on Tuesday, sweeping the series over the Vikings.

How It Happened
From the start, the first game of the non-conference doubleheader belonged to the Raiders. Northwestern opened up a 6-0 lead on their way to a 9-1 win in six innings over (RV) Grand View.

A four-run first inning set the tone for the Raiders, as Chloe Gallegos drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the game's first run. In the next at-bat, Jori Hajek opened a solid day at the plate with a two-RBI single, bringing in Kameryn Etherington and Tatum Schmalbeck. An error brought the fourth and final run of the inning in to give the Raiders the early advantage.

Northwestern scored one in each of the next two innings, first on an Etherington sacrifice bunt, then on a sac fly from Gwen Mikkelsen.

After Grand View broke the shutout with a home run, the Raiders put up two more on an RBI single for Charli Bomgaars. The Raiders ended the game early by taking a 9-1 lead in the sixth on Hajek's third RBI of the day, sending Logan Miller across.
