ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern erased deficits in both games of Friday's home twin bill, splitting the series with No. 9-ranked Doane.

GAME 1: NWC 5, DOANE 4
Pitching Decisions
Win: Peyton Montecinos (2-0)
Loss: R. Steele (2-2)
Save: None

How It Happened
Mo Watson highlighted an exciting comeback win, as Northwestern erased a 4-0 deficit to defeat the top-10 Doane Tigers.

Doane took the early lead, loading the bags early and often to take a 3-0 advantage in the top of the first.

In the top of the fourth, Noah Winkelman hit a solo shot to left center to extend the lead. The Raiders answered in the bottom of the inning, cutting the deficit in half, and energizing the home fans. Three consecutive base hits allowed Sam Stanford to drive in Northwestern's first run and make it 4-1. Then, a walk loaded the bases for Mason Porepp, who drove in a run on the play.

Down but not out, Devin Dirkx helped his team inch closer, blasting the ball near the batter's eye in center to cut Doane's lead to one run.

Peyton Montecinos entered to keep the game within reach, and Northwestern responded in the bottom of the seventh. With runners at all stations, Watson snuck the ball past the outstretched defender, bringing in two and sending his teammates out for the final celebration.

Game Notes:
  • Mo Watson had the walk-off hit, singling to drive in two runs.
  • Dylan Kirkeby threw six strikeouts, inching closer to the career program mark of 267, sitting at 257.
  • In two innings, Peyton Montecinos struck out four batters and allowed three baserunners.
  • Luke Wroblewski went 3-for-4, his third game this season with three hits.

GAME 2: DOANE 9, NWC 8
Pitching Decisions
Win: E. Merk (2-1)
Loss: Jakeb Swallow (3-2)
Save: None

How It Happened
Doane avoided the sweep, scoring three runs in the eighth to split the doubleheader with the Raiders.

The Tigers began the game with a leadoff home run, plating another to take a 2-0 lead. In what would become a high-scoring game, Mason Porepp hit a two-out single to bring Drew Dykstra home from third and make the score 2-1.

Both teams added runs in the second, continuing the offensive trend before the Tigers opened up a 6-2 run in the visitors' half of the sixth. Northwestern then provided a scoring outburst in the bottom of the same inning, bringing six across to take an 8-6 lead. After an error and a single, a hit batter made it 6-4 with nobody out. On the next play, Devin Dirkx hit a ball that caromed off the pitcher before a broken play forced an error, with three runs scoring on the play. Now holding their first lead of the game, the Raiders added another as Mo Watson drove a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Dirkx, heading to the seventh with an 8-6 advantage.

The resilient Tigers were down to their final six outs, but a leadoff home run sparked a three-run inning to take down Northwestern in the second game of the day.

Game Notes:
