Schmalbeck First Freshman This Season to Receive GPAC Weekly Award

Raiders sweep conference weekly honors

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern softball freshman infielder Tatum Schmalbeck has been selected as the GPAC Hauff Mid-America Sports Player of the Week for Week 6.

A first-year Red Raider from Sioux Center, Iowa, Schmalbeck has become a key factor at the plate and in the circle. This week, it was her work as a position player that stood out, as she hit for an average of .545 and drove in six runs. In a 3-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Friday, Schmalbeck drove in all three runs on an RBI double. Earlier in the week, she had two RBIs in an 8-0 win against Mount Marty.

"As a freshman, Tatum has jumped in and competed to help us win wherever she is asked," head coach Shane Bouman said. "We are so blessed by her work ethic and high expectations."

Schmalbeck is the first freshman this season to be named GPAC Softball Player of the Week.

This week's award marks the season's first GPAC weekly selection for the Raiders. Schmalbeck joins teammate Kameryn Etherington, who was named the GPAC Pitcher of the Week.
