Mashaba In Long Jump, 4x100m Relay, Both Hit NAIA Auto Marks

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – It seems like northwest Iowa rarely gets the 70 degree days on weekends, but Friday/Saturday the Raiders got that and more. With Friday evening with temps at 60-70, and Saturday afternoon with temps closing in on 80, the Raider men would stand out among the rest of the competition with 4 event winners, 24 placings in the top 8, and 26 personal records or season bests being broken. The meet would be highlighted by Simphiwe Mashaba winning the men's long jump in a new personal record, and NAIA Automatic Qualifying mark of 7.41m or 24' 3.75". The men's 4x100m relay would also hit the NAIA auto mark, lowering their season best now down to 40.91, on their way to winning the event. Those members were Braden Kalvelage, Grant Palmer, Braden Jahn, and Ashton Sandbulte.

Kalvelage would have the fastest qualifying time of 11.08, Tyreece Wynne after in 11.18, Mashaba in 11.19, and Vance Hayenga-Johnson in 11.20. All of those times run into a headwind. In the finals, Hayenga-Johnson would take 4th, Mashaba would take 5th, Wynne in 7th at 11.40. The 200 would see 7 out of the 8 men hit season best or personal records in the event, with 3 begin in the top 8. Onto the 5000m run, the Raider men would take places 2, 3, and 4, coming across the line. Brayden Dirks would get 2nd followed just behind by Braden Brough in 3rd, and Sam Harrison finish out his run to take 4th place. While the 5000m run seems long, the longest race available was the 10,000m which 2 brave Raiders would undertake. For their first time running the distance, Ben VanDeBerg finished in 6th place with a time of 32:43.15, and Jacob Shaffer finished in 14th with a time of 37:39.57.
