Northwestern Wins Shootout in Game One, Splits Series With Top-15 Bulldogs

SEWARD, Neb. – The Red Raider baseball team came away with another win on Friday, winning two of four against the No. 13-ranked Concordia (Neb.) Bulldogs.

How It Happened
Northwestern came back from a four-run deficit to defeat Concordia for the second time in two days, 11-7 in Seward.

Bryce Click put the Raiders ahead in the first inning, recording the first of his four hits on the day to drive in a run, as Northwestern scored three on the play with the help of an error on the throw. In the bottom of the first, Concordia displayed its power as Joey Grabanski tied it with a three-run shot.

Trailing 7-3 heading into the fourth, Northwestern put seven runs on the board to regain the lead. The Raiders kept the bases loaded for most of the inning, assisting in their success in the frame. Down by three, Drew Dykstra scored two on a base hit up the middle to bring his team within one run. A balk scored the tying run, and the Raiders sent three more runners across the plate with a walk and two base hits.

Using an effective relief outing to earn the win, Micah De Haan kept Northwestern ahead by allowing only three baserunners in 3.1 innings.

  • Bryce Click went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a triple.

How It Happened
Concordia evened up the conference battle in the second game of the night, coming away with a 4-1 win over Northwestern.

The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the first three innings, doing so with only four hits and taking advantage of three Red Raider errors.

Northwestern added one run to its total with Mo Watson's sacrifice fly, but it was the only time the Raiders crossed the plate in the contest, ending the weekend at 2-2 overall.

Game Notes:
  • Mason Porepp went 2-for-3 at the plate.
  • Mo Watson was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly.
  • Devin Dirkx threw 4.2 innings in relief, striking out three and allowing a run.
Up Next: Northwestern is back on the road on Thursday, traveling to Sioux City for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Morningside.
