Baseball Drops Both in Road Doubleheader

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Both games of Thursday's doubleheader were decided by a two-run differential as Morningside picked up a GPAC sweep over the Raiders.

How It Happened
Morningside broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning to take game one of Thursday's GPAC doubleheader.

The Raiders struck first, scoring with two outs in the opening frame. Drew Dykstra led off the game with a single before advancing to second. With TJ Silliman taking Dykstra's spot on the base paths, Silliman moved to third on a passed ball, while Mo Watson drove him in with a base hit to center, giving Northwestern a 1-0 lead.

It did not take long before the score was knotted up again, as Morningside tied the game on an RBI double in the home half of the first.

Northwestern was able to leave two runners aboard in the second and third innings, but neither team would score again until the Mustangs sent two across in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead on an RBI double.

With one more chance to extend the game in the seventh, Ranier Castillo drove a walk to put the tying run at the plate, but Morningside's Mason Hymer closed the game to earn the save.

How It Happened
A two-run home run was the deciding factor as Morningside completed the sweep over Northwestern on Thursday evening.

The Mustangs grabbed the lead on a one out, two-run home run to score the only runs of the game.

Northwestern's best chance came in the top of the fourth, loading the bases before a strikeout and a groundout ended the opportunity.
