Raiders Drop Final Games in Florida

Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Red Raider baseball team concluded its time in Florida facing the No. 15-ranked Ave Maria Gyrenes, dropping both games on Monday.

How It Happened
A seventh-inning rally attempt was thwarted as Northwestern lost its first game of the day, 5-2 to Ave Maria.

The Gyrenes built up a 4-0 lead in the first three innings, tacking on another run in the sixth to go ahead 5-0.

With work to be done, the Raiders loaded the bases in the seventh, setting Brody Ayers up for the RBI single to left field to cut the deficit to four runs. Then, with two outs and three on, Luke Wroblewski singled up the middle to score Mo Watson, but the game ended on a ground ball fielder's choice in the next plate appearance.

Brody Ayers and Mo Watson both went 2-for-3.
Ayers drove in a run.
Luke Wroblewski went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Micah Larsen pitched 1.2 innings, striking out two and only allowing one hit.
Aidan Sieperda punched out three in 2.1 innings of work.

How It Happened
Northwestern led for the first time on the day in the opening frame, starting with Drew Dykstra singling to center to lead off the game. After Luke Wroblewski and Sam Stanford reached in the next two at-bats, Wroblewski scored the game's first run on a balk, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

The Gyrenes tied the game at 1-1 with a wild pitch before plating three in the sixth to earn the doubleheader sweep.

Game Notes:

Drew Dykstra threw five strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
At the plate, Dykstra was 1-for-3.
Sam Stanford collected two hits.
