Raiders and Jimmies Battle to Final Possession

Schany with sixth double-double, Anderson records 19 points

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – In the rematch of a game that saw Northwestern win on a last-second shot in November, the Raiders had an open look for the win at Jamestown, ultimately falling to the Jimmies 72-71.

"It was a great effort from our team, and they battled the whole game," head coach Kristin Rotert said. "Jamestown's a good matchup for us with their physicality and style of play, and we always have tough battles with them. We played hard, but just need to execute better."

Northwestern held momentum early, moving ahead 12-0 in the first three minutes with the first seven points coming from Hali Anderson. After an Akaysa Duitscher trey put the Raiders ahead 25-13, Jamestown started to build back, using an 8-2 run at the end of the period to come within six.

Despite the Raiders holding a seven-point lead going into the final three minutes of the half, Jamestown worked its way ahead for the first time with a three-pointer to go up 35-34 with 1:50 to go. Both teams traded baskets to a 41-41 halftime tie, fitting for teams with identical records entering the contest.

Northwestern took a slight lead through the third, opening the quarter with a Lexie Van Kekerix three, setting her team up to hold the lead for the entirety of the quarter, save for a 55-55 tie.

Later, in the fourth, the Raiders found themselves trailing 63-62 with 6:54 on the clock, answering with a Molly Schany and-one that sparked a 7-0 run and giving Northwestern a 69-63 lead with 4:09 to play. From that point, Kate Cordes and Audrey Rodakowski willed the Jimmies back ahead. Cordes knocked down a three and Rodakowski hit a free throw and a jumper to knot it at 69-69. As the clock trickled under two minutes, Schany got into the paint to score and give the Raiders the lead. On the next possession, Cordes nailed another three, putting Jamestown ahead for good, 72-71. Northwestern had good looks in the final minute, including a last-second three out of a timeout that rimmed out and ended the game.
