Van Kekerix’s Career-High Lifts Raiders Over Lancers

Junior forward scores 24 points on four three-pointers

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern won its fourth-straight game inside the Bultman Center on Saturday, led by a career-high scoring total from Lexie Van Kekerix, to send the Red Raider women's basketball team over the Mount Marty Lancers.

In a game that the Raiders led from the start, Northwestern moved ahead 8-4 in the first five minutes on a steal and score from Akaysa Duitscher and Hali Anderson. The Lancers made a three on the next possession, but Duitscher and Anderson scored the next five points to push the Raider lead back to six, on the way to an 18-12 advantage after one.

Northwestern, with 15 points from Van Kekerix, outscored Mount Marty 25-9 in the second to create additional separation heading into the break. The Raiders saw Van Kekerix score their first 10 points of the frame, helping the lead grow to 28-16 with 5:47 in the quarter. The Raiders took their first 20-point lead from none other than Van Kekerix, who drained a three in the final seconds to break at a score of 43-21.

The third quarter was a similar story, with Northwestern adding 26 points to their total, creating their largest lead of the game at 62-29 after a pair of Madison Naig free throws.

Northwestern received minutes from nine players in the fourth quarter, improving their record to 14-10 (10-8 GPAC) in the 79-58 win.

GAME NOTES
  • Lexie Van Kekerix had a career day, scoring a collegiate-best of 24 points with three steals.
  • 19 of Van Kekerix's 24 points were scored in the first half.
  • Hali Anderson scored 11 points and assisted on seven baskets.
  • Akaysa Duitscher scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, adding 11 points.
  • Duitscher also dished out a career-high seven assists.
  • Northwestern made 11 threes, the first time this year with 10+ treys.
