LINCOLN, Neb./MITCHELL, S.D. – Friday,
Braden Kalvelage and
Justin Gleason would travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to participate in the long jump at UNL. Kalvelage would jump 7.13m on his first jump setting hi in 7
th place, and Gleason would jump 6.83m on his 3
rd jump, barely missing finals to finish 12
th. The rest of the team would compete at the DWU alumni meet on Saturday, February 3
rd.
SPRINTS
The meet would start fast with the 60m dash seeing
Vance Hayenga-Johnson rip a PR of 7.08 in the preliminaries followed just behind by
Simphiwe Mashaba only .1 off his PR in 7.09, both qualifying for the finals. Hayenga-Johnson would finish in 5
th, while Mashaba would finish in 7
th, both at 7.10. Coming back in the 200, Hayenga-Johnson would finish 4
th, just behind
Ashton Sandbulte who finished in 23.05. Leading the Raiders was
Aziah Ashley, winning the 200m dash in 22.82, impressive considering 45 minutes earlier he would run a PR in the indoor 400 of 51.34 to get 2
nd place. Also in the 400 was
Coltin Vargas running a PR as well. In the 60m hurdles,
Elijah Weaver and
AJ Bomaars making the finals, would finish in 6
th, and 5
th place respectively.
JUMPS/THROWS
The the vertical jumps, all 4 men would finish in the top 8. Starting,
Lane Johnson in the pole vault jumped 3.75m and would miss 3.90m, the mark he hit last week. In the high jump,
Drew Geetings led the Raiders with a 1.80m jump to finish 4
th, with
Donovan Elmore and Vargas both clearing 1.75m for the tie at 6
th place. In the long jump, Mashaba would be back from the 60m runs to hit a season best of 6.71m, followed by
Will Bunn at 6.52m. In the triple jump,
Liam Raymon would lead the men with his 6
th place finish of 12.32m, followed by
Reese Van Zee making his triple jump debut and finishing in 7
th.
Isaiah Hollinger would try the triple jump as well and finish in 10
th place at 11.87m. In the shot put ring,
Jared Gaudy and
Nathan Mather would both throw PRs. Gaudy getting to 11.12m and Mather eclipsing the 10m barrier at 10.12m.
DISTANCE
Trying his hand in new events,
Joseph Kunert would lead the men through the 800m distance, finishing in 2:00.41, a PR for him and finishing 5
th. Going up in distance,
Trey Engelmann would have the highest finish for the men in the 1000m in his own PR time of 2:39.76 when he finished 5
th. In a huge PR,
Ben VanDeBerg finished 4
th place in the 3000m run with a time of 8:58.18. Although out of the top 10,
Brayden Dirks, Braeden Brough, Carson Engbers, and
Jacob Shaffer would all run PR times across the 3000m distance.
