Career-Highs Help Raiders Erase Halftime Deficit

Schany pulls in 19 rebounds, Anderson 25 points

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Despite trailing by six points at halftime, Northwestern won an important GPAC road game over (RV) Briar Cliff, led by career-highs in rebounds for Molly Schany and points for Hali Anderson.

"Getting the ball into the post was a huge matchup advantage for us tonight," head coach Kristin Rotert commented. "Also, when we can handle the press and get in the open floor, we've been really good. I'm proud of our kids and the toughness that they showed to regroup and make some big plays."

The Chargers started strong on their home floor, taking a six-point lead with 6:41 remaining. Northwestern battled back to take its first lead of the night at 15-14 with 2:19 in the first quarter. With only one point separating the teams at the end of the first, the second quarter began with the two trading leads. Briar Cliff then opened up an eight-point advantage on two occasions before taking a 44-38 lead at the end of the half.

Needing momentum to swing their way at the start of the third, the Raiders went on a 9-0 as Anderson and Maren Nerem found their way to the free throw line to regain a 53-52 lead. Neither team lead by double-digits until the end of the third, when Kylie Foss forced a turnover and Anderson followed with a three to make the score 67-57 in favor of the Raiders.

The fourth and final quarter was a defensive battle, with the Chargers outscoring the Raiders 16-11. Molly Schany scored the first two Red Raider baskets as part of her 23-point, 19-rebound performance ahead of an Anderson bucket to bring the lead back to 11. Despite Briar Cliff cutting its deficit down to three, Foss made important free throws down the stretch to secure the 78-73 win.
