Saturday Tournament Battle for Northwestern

Crete, NE - It would be a rough tournament outing for the Raiders as they are unable to string together wins and find a place on the podium.

It was a slow start for Northwestern as it would be tough losses in the first round that put them behind in the standings. Braedon Campbell would be one of those wrestlers at 184lbs as he was unable to fend off Midland's Treyton Tweton in his first match of the day, falling by a 13-9 decision. Kaleb Lind and Carter Peterson would both receive first round BYEs on the front side, Lind used the extra time to his advantage before his second round match as he got the decision win over Michael Moreno from Arizona Christian to move on to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, Lind would be beaten by Doane's Kasten Grape in that quarterfinal match.

Starting off with that early loss would be hard start for some Raider wrestlers, but others were able to put together a few wins on the backside of the bracket, including the aforementioned Braedon Campbell as well as fellow 184-pounder Thomas Vance. Campbell picked up two big major decisions in a row plus a decision victory in his three consolation bracket wins. Vance earned himself some big time bonus points wins in the consolations with a fall over Aiden Vasquez of Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa and a major decision victory. Northwestern failed to reach the podium and would have to settle for 24th place in a tough Doane Open.

Up Next: The Raiders get a long break to regroup before heading to the Under Armour Invite hosted by Central College in Pella, Iowa on Saturday, January 4th starting at 9:00 AM
