Northwestern Cruises to Friday Night Win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In their opening game of the 2024 Pizza Ranch Classic, the Northwestern men's basketball team used an efficient shooting night to defeat Viterbo 96-71.

Northwestern jumped out to its first double-digit lead at 14:49 as Marcus Kelderman converted on the fast-break layup to make it 15-5. Five minutes later, Jesse Van Kalsbeek got the Raider faithful on their feet with a one-handed slam to extend the lead to 26-8 with under 10 to go in the half. The Raiders received another burst when Conner Geddes and Jalen Langsy hit threes on consecutive possessions to go out to a 38-21 advantage with four to go, leading up to a 44-25 halftime lead.

Despite Viterbo getting as close as 15 early in the second, Northwestern went on a 19-8 run capped by a driving dunk from Kasen Bailey to make it 77-49 with nine minutes remaining. The Raider lead reached its peak when Carter Van Hulzen scored two of his career-best 10 points to give his team a 34-point advantage under five minutes. Strong contributions across the board helped Northwestern to a 96-71 victory, its third win of the early season.
