Explosive Offense Carries Raiders to Victory

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern men's basketball team concluded the 2024 Pizza Ranch Classic with a 120-78 victory over Mayville State, continuing a string of impressive offensive performances to begin the season.

Mayville State would take its only lead of the day at 3-2 at 19:26 after a made three before the Raiders would push to a 20-8 lead at the 14:20 mark in the first half.  Scoring opportunities for the Comets would be few as Northwestern's defense was able to force unbalanced and hurried shots.  Back to back three pointers from Jalen Langsy and Marcus Kelderman extended the Northwestern lead 31-14 with 11:37 left in the half.  The Raiders ended the half strong off of consecutive buckets by Alex Van Kalsbeek to lead 60-37.

In the second half, Northwestern kept its lead and never looked back.  A Langsy three followed by a Kelderman dunk would ignite the Red Raider crowd while giving Northwestern an 84-55 lead with 13:56 left on the clock.  The Raiders broke 100 points on a Kaleb Booth three pointer with 8:50 left.  Mason Coppock would end the scoring on the day with a three, bringing the final score to 120-78.  Northwestern showed quality depth with major contributions from a multitude of players off the bench.
