Northwestern Completes Third Undefeated Regular Season in Program History

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Red Raider volleyball team closed out its third undefeated regular season in program history on Tuesday, taking down Dordt in straight sets.

NWC 3, DORDT 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13)

How It Happened
On a night where Northwestern celebrated their GPAC regular season title after the match, the Raiders had plenty to celebrate between the lines in a sweep of Dordt.

Strong starts were the catalyst in each set, as Northwestern started each set with a lead of at least 5-1. As for the first set, the sides matched up well, opening at a 7-6 start. Kills from Savonne Sterk, Alysen Dexter, and Emma Westphal sparked the home squad, as the Raiders opened up an 11-7 advantage. After a few Dordt points to draw within one, Northwestern put together a run to begin pulling away, capped by a a 4-0 run that forced Dordt to use both of its timeouts. Out of the break, the Defenders put two back on the board, but Northwestern forced a series of errors to take a 25-16 win.

After a 7-1 opening to the second forced a Defender timeout, Northwestern found offense from across the board, with Zavyr Metzger and Jazlin Douma later collecting kills to extend the lead to 17-10. Later on, the Raiders went on a 5-1 run, finished with a setter attack from Logan Miller to make it 23-14. The Raiders again used their stifling defense to force errors and come away with a 25-16 victory.

Domination ensued in the third as the Raiders went on a 10-0 run after Dordt scored on the first serve. Northwestern later took its largest lead of the night at 18-5 off of back-to-back aces from Jori Hajek. Although Dordt put a few more scoring opportunities together in the waning moments, a Marissa Pottebaum kill and a Defender service error closed the sweep with a 25-13 third set.

Game Notes:
  • Jazlin Douma led all players with 14 kills.
  • Zavyr Metzger had eight blocks, matching her fourth-highest total of the season.
