Raiders Fight to Final Seconds Against No. 7 DSU

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In another top-25 battle for the Red Raider women's basketball team, No. 7 Dakota State held on for a 62-59 win over Northwestern on Tuesday in the Bultman Center.

Northwestern gained an early lead with a three by Kylie Foss, followed by a layup from Lexie Van Kekerix, increasing the Raiders' advantage to 5-0. Dakota State responded with a triple by Kenzi Simmons to get on the scoreboard. The teams traded points throughout the quarter, however, the Red Raiders maintained their lead, supported by Molly Schany's consistent scoring, including a layup and a jumper, to end the quarter with a 16-11 lead.

The second saw the Trojans outscore the Raiders 16-11, beginning with a back-and-forth exchange. Dakota State narrowed the deficit to 18-20 at the seven-minute mark, and the Raiders managed to maintain a slight edge until the Trojans tied the game at 27-27 with a layup and a successful free throw with just under a minute remaining.

Despite a brief scoring effort that included a layup by Madison Naig and two free throws by Akaysa Duitscher, the Trojans maintained control in the third, ending the quarter with an 18-9 run to solidify their lead.

Schany had a strong performance to keep the score close in the fourth, scoring multiple times in the paint throughout the quarter to keep her team within reach. A late attempt from Foss with a three-point deficit was stymied by the Trojans, nullifying Northwestern's upset bid.
