Men's Hoops Starts GPAC Play with Road Win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - The Northwestern College men's basketball team defeated Mount Marty 78-61 on Saturday at Cimpl Arena.

The first half between the Raiders and the Lancres featured a dynamic exchange of leads, with both teams scoring 10 baskets each. Northwestern initially led the half, with Jesse Van Kalsbeek scoring the opening points. However, Mount Marty quickly gained momentum, achieving their largest lead of nine points at the 8:31 mark. The Raiders made a strong comeback toward the end of the half, briefly regaining the lead with a three-pointer. Mount Marty managed to hold a narrow 26-25 advantage at the end of the half, with both teams displaying strong defensive plays, including numerous steals and blocks.

In the second half, the Red Raiders extended their lead over Mount Marty significantly, scoring 53 points compared to Mount Marty's 35. Alex Van Kalsbeek was instrumental, contributing with both scoring and defensive plays, including multiple successful jumpers and free throws. Jalen Langsy added to Northwestern's dominance with several key threes and a series of free throws, helping them build a 19-point lead by the end of the half. Mount Marty struggled to keep pace and couldn't close the gap as Northwestern maintained control throughout the half.

GAME NOTES
  • Alex Van Kalsbeek led all scorers with 30 points. He also contributed nine boards.
  • Jesse Van Kalsbeek added 23 points to go with five rebounds.
  • Jalen Langsy put up 15 points.
  • The Raiders shot 53.7% to Mount Marty's 43.9%.
  • Northwestern went an efficient 15-for-16 from the line.
