Orange City, Iowa. – Northwestern won their opening game of the season at home on Friday night. The Raiders were led by Molly Schany with 20 points and Lexie Van Kekerix with 22 points and a career-high 6 three-pointers.
The Raiders got moving quickly, ending the first quarter with a 25-13 lead over Oregon Tech. The Raiders were 10-15 from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. They also out-rebounded the Owls 9 to 6.
Oregon Tech started to gain their footing in the second quarter but were not able to make a significant dent in the Raiders' first quarter lead. The Raiders carried a 41-30 lead into the locker room.
The Owls continued to hang in the game, but no threat was too daunting for Northwestern. The defense remained solid and held Oregon Tech under 20 points in a quarter for the third time of the night. Molly Schany dominated the third quarter with 7 points on 3 for 3 shooting and 5 rebounds.
In the fourth quarter, the Raiders put the game away including Lexie Van Kekerix capping off her big night by hitting her 5th and 6th threes on the game and scoring 8 in the quarter.
When the final horn sounded, the scoreboard read 81-65 in the advantage of Northwestern and the ladies ran to the locker room with smiles on their faces.
