Red Raiders Surge Past College of Saint Mary

Northwestern scores a season-high 91 points

ORANGE CITY, Iowa. – In their second home game this week, the Northwestern women's basketball team (13-8, 9-6 GPAC) used a dominant performance to defeat College of Saint Mary (1-19, 0-15 GPAC).

"The pace of the game was good from the start, and we played fast in the open floor," commented head coach Kristin Rotert. "A big point of emphasis coming in was controlling the pace and making our opponent play fast. In the second half, we moved the ball, set screens, and got reversals, and we hope that will give us momentum heading into Saturday."

After a slow start saw College of Saint Mary take an early four-point lead, Northwestern responded with a 7-0 run to close the first quarter with a 21-14 advantage. Hali Anderson put in a layup at the buzzer to continue swinging the momentum in the Raiders' favor.

The Raiders bridged the rally into the second, scoring the first five points to cap the run at 12-0 before the Flames hit a three to get back on the scoreboard. With the lead hanging around 10 points through the midway point, Molly Schany scored six points in an 8-0 run, making it 41-27 at the break.

The third quarter was where Northwestern asserted themselves, outscoring the Flames 28-8. The home squad scored 22 of the first 24 points in the period, punctuated by a Kaydin Davis and-one to give Northwestern a 34-point lead.

Following wholesale changes to the lineup in the fourth, the Raiders created valuable minutes down the stretch, as nine players received minutes and outscored College of Saint Mary 22-8 on their way to a 91-43 win.
