Raiders Put Three in Double Figures, Fall in GPAC Road Tilt

Schany scores 18; 17 points for Anderson

MITCHELL, S.D. – A fast start by (RV) Dakota Wesleyan (14-5, 9-4 GPAC) proved to be the difference as (RV) Northwestern (11-8, 7-6 GPAC) looked to get back in the win column, ultimately dropping a 70-61 decision.

"We struggled to settle in offensively, but we got some good looks around the basket, too," head coach Kristin Rotert commented. "Defensively it was a slow start. They got some momentum early and it was the difference the rest of the game. We were really good in some areas, improving our shooting percentage, and our balance offensively was positive. We took the right shots and got to the free throw line."

The home Tigers were aggressive early, scoring the first 11 points before Lexie Van Kekerix got the Raiders on the board with 3:55 to go in the opening quarter. Despite the early differential, Northwestern remained on task, not letting the game fall out of reach. The Raiders closed the half on a 7-0 run with four points by Molly Schany and a bucket before the horn for Kaydin Davis.

Out of the break, neither team could create separation, as the Raider defense held the Tigers to 27.8% shooting, while Northwestern once again closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to make it a 46-37 contest entering the final 10 minutes.

The Raiders had their best quarter in the fourth, shooting 66.7% and coming within six points at the 6:23 mark, but Dakota Wesleyan closed out the game going 13-for-16 from the charity stripe to finish a battle between two teams vying for a top-four spot in the conference.
