Northwestern Suffers Road Loss at Doane

Davis scores 11 points with six rebounds and five assists

CRETE, Neb. – In a crucial January matchup between two teams fighting for positioning in the GPAC standings, the (RV) Northwestern women's basketball team (11-7, 7-5 GPAC) fell to the Doane Tigers (12-6, 7-5 GPAC) on Saturday afternoon.

A low-scoring first quarter saw Doane take the early advantage, ending the quarter on a 9-1 run to make the score 14-9 heading into the second.

The Raiders fought back to tie the game twice in the second quarter, first on a pair of free throws by Hali Anderson at 17-17, then on her bucket in the paint to make it 19-19. At the 1:47 mark, Emily TerWee finished up a 5-0 run to give her team the lead, while Kaydin Davis also put Northwestern ahead in the final minute. Doane converted on a jumper on their final possession of the half, taking a slim 26-25 lead into the locker room.

Northwestern's third quarter was their best 10 minutes of play on the day, leading for all but two minutes. TerWee knocked down a basket on the first possession, and the teams traded points for the next five minutes. A couple of Davis free throws sparked a 10-0 run over two minutes, capped off by a trey for Peyton Beckman to make the score 41-31 in favor of Northwestern. As the game of runs continued, Doane worked its way back to a three-point deficit going into the final quarter.

The Tigers shot a blistering 78.6% in the final 10 minutes, outscoring Northwestern 28-7 while taking the lead at the 9:12 mark, and pushing their way to a 70-52 conference win.
