Women's Tennis Falls at Home in Opener

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In their first match of the fall season, the Northwestern women's tennis team (0-1, 0-0 GPAC) was defeated by Iowa Central (1-0, 0-0 ICCAC) on their home courts, dropping a 6-1 decision.

Beginning with doubles play, two courts were active, including the Raider duos of Julia Kutz (Jr., Sheridan, Wyo.) and Julia Anderson (Jr., Rapid City, S.D.), and Olya Furmanova (So., Minsk, Belarus) and Aliya Peterson (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.). The Tritons took both doubles matches, though Kutz and Anderson played a competitive 6-3 contest in the No. 1 slot.

Northwestern's singles outings were highlighted by a close call for Hannah Beckloff (So., Rapid City, S.D.), who won the first set 6-1 and fell 11-9 in a 10-point tiebreaker.

"It was a great match," noted head coach Jamie De Jong. "I was happy with what I saw out there. All of our women hit well but we need to keep working at building consistency."

Up Next: The Raiders will be back in action next weekend for the GPAC Individual Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska.
