Red Raiders Run Past Mount Marty in Straight Sets

Northwestern notches double-digit blocks for fourth-straight match

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 2-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (15-2, 6-2 GPAC) bounced back Saturday afternoon with a straight sets victory over the Lancers of Mount Marty University (9-13, 2-6 GPAC) to pick up the 42nd-straight win over the Lancers. The Red Raiders notched double-digit blocks for the fourth-straight match.

Northwestern left little doubt this afternoon, taking the first six points of the opening set on the way to winning the set 25-12. In that run, Alysen Dexter (Jr., Urbandale, Iowa) made her presence known with three big swings resulting in kills. Mount Marty would battle back to make it 10-6, but another 6-0 Raider run put them in complete control, leading 16-7. The Red Raiders would take the seven of the final nine points in the set.

The Lancers would show a bit of fight in the second set but the outcome of the set was never really in doubt. NWC jumped out to a 7-4 lead. The Raiders would hold a 3-5 point lead for most of the set until a four-point Mount Marty run would even it up at 17-17. Northwestern would respond with six of the next seven points to put the set, effectively, away (23-19). The Raiders would take the 2-0 match lead with a 25-20 set victory.

Mount Marty would take the first three points of what would be the final set. Errors on the Lancer side of the net would help Northwestern take their first lead of the set at 6-5 and they would not look back. The biggest run of the set proved to be a 7-0 run to make it match point at 24-12. The Lancers would sneak two more points in, but NWC would prevail in straight sets with a 25-14 set three victory.
