Dexter Notches 1,000th Career Kill in Sweep at Doane

Red Raiders tally nine of service aces in their 15th sweep of the season

CRETE, Neb. – The No. 2-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (16-2, 7-2 GPAC) picks up their 15th sweep of the season behind nine of service aces against the Tigers of Doane University (4-15, 2-7 GPAC) Friday night in Nebraska. Junior Alysen Dexter tallied her 1,000th career kill in the second set of tonight's match, while also recording match-high five service aces.  
Dexter (Jr., Urbandale, Iowa) picked up her first service ace early in the match in the Red Raider's first serve, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead. A block from Savonne Sterk (Jr., Lynden, Wash.) and Zavyr Metzger (So., Larchwood, Iowa) would push the Red Raider lead up to 12-5 and would force a Doane time out. Northwestern would keep the Tigers at arms length the rest of the set, prevailing 25-19.
 
Doane came out with a little bit of fight in the second set. The Tigers held an early advantage of 9-6, forcing a Red Raider time out. Trailing 12-9, Northwestern rattled off five-straight points to take a 14-12 lead and force a Doane time out. The Red Raiders would take the next four points to take their largest lead of the set at six points (18-12). Northwestern would go on to win the set 25-16, holding the Tigers to their lowest point total of the match. In the second set, Dexter would tally her 1,000th career kill in a Northwestern uniform.
 
Northwestern would jump out to an 12-5 lead in the third set to force a Tiger time out. The Red Raiders would keep the pressure on for the rest of the set, holding the Tigers at bay. Doane would use their final time out of the set with NWC leading 19-11. The Tigers would make a small push following the time out, but Northwestern would go on to take the third set, and the match, 25-16.
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Alysen Dexter picked up her 1,000th career kill in the second set of the match.
  • NWC hit .226 and held Doane to just a .088 percentage on the match.
  • Dexter led the match with her 14 kills on a 0.323 hitting percentage.
  • Macay Van't Hul and Zavyr Metzger tied for a match-high four blocks.
  • Liv Reitsma had a team-high 15 assists and Logan Miller tallied 13.
  • Olivia Granstra led the team with her 10 digs.
  • Dexter notched five of the team's nine service aces in the sweep.
