Northwestern Dominates Dakota State to Finish Red Raider Invite

De Haan leads the Raiders with 15 kills and 13 digs in the win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 5-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (2-0, 0-0 GPAC) concluded the 2023 Red Raider Invite with a dominant win over Dakota State University (0-1, 0-0 NSAA), controlling every facet of the match inside the Bultman Center as the Red Raiders remain unbeaten against Dakota State in program history.
Northwestern got off to a hot start, taking five of the first six points. Dakota State, in turn, would score five of the next six points themselves and would lead 8-7 but it would be the only time in the match the Trojans would hold a lead over Northwestern. Tied up at 9-9, Northwestern went on their first, of three major, runs on the match with a 15-2 spurt, taking total control of the set at 24-11. The Trojans would take three-straight themselves, but the set would come to an end with a service error on their small run.

A 17-3 run with Olivia Granstra (Jr., Sheldon, Iowa) behind the service line a majority of the time saw the Red Raiders dominate the second set 25-9. Leading 5-3 and following a Dakota State attacking error, the Red Raiders ripped off 13-straight points to run away from the Trojans. Northwestern would score the final four points of the set, taking a commanding 2-0 match lead.

Set three also proved to be all Red Raiders as another big run, this time nine-straight points, saw Northwestern take a commanding 16-6 lead. The Raiders would go on to score eight of the last 10 points of the set to pick up their second-straight sweep, winning 25-10.
