Women's Tennis Season Ends in GPAC Quarterfinals

OMAHA, Neb. – After qualifying for the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tournament for the first time since 2019, the Northwestern women's tennis team (8-11, 3-4 GPAC) saw their season conclude in a conference quarterfinals loss to Concordia (Neb.) (13-8, 4-3 GPAC) on Friday morning. wten-photoatgpac

The match started with doubles, where the Concordia took two out of the three pairings. Northwestern's team of Julia Kutz (So., Sheridan, Wyo.) and Julia Anderson (So., Rapid City, S.D.) opened at the No. 1 slot with a 6-3 win before the Bulldogs took a set sweep in the No. 2 match. Coming down to a decisive third match for the doubles point, the pairing of Ainslie Robinson (So., Luverne, Minn.) and Hannah Beckloff (Fr., Rapid City, S.D.) gave Concordia a tough match, falling 7-5.

Kutz obtained the only point for the Raiders, taking a three-set match over Tessa Blough. In the No. 1 singles slot, Olya Furmanova (Fr., Misnk, Belarus) played a close two sets before Concordia came through with the win. Additionally, Wynne Vandersall (Sr., Martelle, Iowa) was playing with a third-set lead before the match was concluded due to Concordia having a three-point advantage.

With their win, Concordia moves on to play (RV) Midland in the GPAC semifinals.
