Baseball NWC Athletic Communications

Raider Programs Sign 16 Newcomers in April

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College athletic communications office announces the signings of 16 Red Raider recruits during the month of April.

Baseball
Matthew Link (Wagner, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to join the Red Raider baseball team.

A multi-sport athlete at Wagner Community, Link posted a .350 career batting average and had eight doubles and 31 hits in his most recent season. Link was successful on the field and in the classroom, earning All-Region center field honors in spring ball and receiving Academic All-State accolades in baseball and basketball.

"Northwestern seems like a great fit for me because I can play baseball and learn about Jesus," Link said.

He is the son of Craig and Jackie, and brother to Ryan and Brad. Link plans to study Ag Business at Northwestern.

Luke Wroblewski (Sussex, Wis.) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern College and join the baseball program.

After prepping at Hamilton High School, Wroblewski is in his second year at Bryant & Stratton College (Wis.). In two years with the Bobcats, he has hit .366 with an on-base percentage of .457. This season, he has 14 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He has also accumulated a 3.8 GPA and earned All-Conference and All-District honors in high school.

"Northwestern College has phenomenal people who make the program, combined with exceptional athletes who are all Christ-centered," Wroblewski commented.

He is the son of Scott Wroblewski and Lindy Mueller, and brother to Tyler, Logan, and Landon. Wroblewski plans to study Criminal Justice at Northwestern.

Dance
Emily Mafredas (Farmington, Minn.) has signed a letter of intent to join the Red Raider dance team.

A senior at Farmington High School, Mafredas has been a part of her local studio for 13 years and has danced for 15 years. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

"I chose Northwestern because I value the faith-integrated academics, the countless opportunities to gather, worship, and learn more about God, the strong nursing program, and being able to continue my dance career," said Mafredas.

She is the daughter of Dan and Angela Mafredas. Mafredas plans to study Nursing at Northwestern.

Esports
Ryan Glowinski (Cary, Ill.) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern and join the Overwatch team.

Glowinski played one year in the esports program at Cary-Grove High School and is currently in his senior season.

"I chose Northwestern College because it offers a great computer science program and I will be able to continue playing esports with a great coach and team," Glowinski commented.

"Ryan is a player with a great attitude and team-first mindset," said Director of Esports Cole Prescott. "Since my very first call with him, I knew he'd be an excellent fit for our team. Despite the fact that he's newer to Overwatch, he shows great promise, and I look forward to seeing him develop into an absolute killer during his time here."

He is the son of Paula and Don Glowinski, and brother to Colin and Katie. Glowinski plans to study Computer Science at Northwestern.

Men's Basketball
Mason Coppock (Hawarden, Iowa) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern and join the basketball program.

Coppock was a 1,000-point scorer at West Sioux, where he averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in his most recent season. For his career, he also tallied 379 assists and 341 boards. On the court, Coppock was a three-time First Team All-Conference performer and has the most assists and second-most points in school history. He also is an "A" honor roll student and received Academic All-State honors in football and basketball.

"I chose Northwestern because of its excellent academic and athletic tradition," noted Coppock. "Coach Korver and his staff made me feel at home, and I look forward to continuing my education and developing as a player at Northwestern."

"Mason is a basketball player who knows the game, has a high basketball IQ, and he is a very good passer," commented head coach Kris Korver. "He makes his teammates better, is a hard worker, and he loves the game of basketball. We look forward to having Mason join us and look forward to seeing him improve."

He is the son of Shad and Alynn Coppock, and brother to Jenna and Bryce. Coppock plans to study Computer Science at Northwestern.

Colby Essing (Manson, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Northwestern College.

In his most recent season at Manson Northwest Webster, Essing averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.8 steals. He is a three-time letter winner and a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.

"During my campus visits, I felt a sense of belonging and everyone made me feel wanted," Essing commented.

"Colby is a well-rounded young man and a great fit for Northwestern," Korver said. "He is grounded in his faith, is dedicated to doing his best in the classroom, and in his desire to improve as a basketball player."

He is the son of Troy Essing, Danielle Bass, Keelie Essing, and Heath Bass, and brother to Alexis. Essing plans to study Exercise Science at Northwestern.

Men's Soccer
Juan Diego Munoz (Colombia) has signed a letter of intent to join the Red Raider men's soccer program.

A student at Gateway Legacy Christian Academy, Munoz plays defensive midfielder and center back. In his most recent season, he posted a goal with three assists from the back line.

"I chose Northwestern College because of the recognition it has at the national level," said Munoz. "It also has the career I want to study, and I appreciate Northwestern's culture."

He is the son of Edwin Munoz. Munoz plans to study Software Engineering at Northwestern.

Kierron Thomas (England) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern College and join the men's soccer program.

A center back at WHS Watford, Thomas was a team captain, starting nine games last season.

"I chose Northwestern because of the sense of community as well as the quality of education available," Thomas commented. "The outstanding sports facilities and coaching staff were also factors."

He is the son of Althea Thomas and Matthew Burriss. Thomas plans to study Sport Management at Northwestern.

Volleyball
Grace Tobin (Mason City, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to join the Red Raider volleyball program.

After playing at Presentation College (S.D.) and North Iowa Area Community College, Tobin has received accolades as a First Team All-NJCAA Region, Honorable Mention NJCAA DII All-American, First Team All-Conference NSAA, and Honorable Mention AVCA All-Region honoree. In one season at Presentation, Tobin had 471 kills, 14 service aces, 386 digs, and 50 blocks. She was also a two-time Academic All-Region honoree at NIACC and a Dean's List student at Presentation.

"I chose Northwestern College because I trusted they could provide me a successful academic and athletic journey in a Christ-honoring way," Tobin commented. "I believe that in the season of life I was in as a transfer, I wanted to go somewhere that would uplift me and prepare me for life."

She is the daughter of Nathan and Stephani Tobin, and sister to Jordyn, Sydney, and Megan. Tobin plans to study Exercise Science at Northwestern.

Women's Basketball
Kaydin Davis (Buffalo, Wyo.) has announced her intention to attend Northwestern College and join the women's basketball program.

In two seasons at South Dakota School of Mines, Davis appeared in 38 games, scoring 1.5 points per game and averaging just over a rebound per game. Previously, at Buffalo High School, she posted 16 points per contest with five boards. Davis was a two-time RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection and a CSC Academic All-District honoree.

"When I stepped on campus it felt like home," noted Davis. "Northwestern has a very welcoming environment, and the strong faith-based community is hard to beat. I am looking forward to growing as a person on and off the court and in and out of the classroom. I am excited to enhance my relationship with the Lord, and continue taking the right steps forward to benefit my future endeavors."

She is the daughter of Zach and Kim Davis, and sister to Kamry, Karly, and Karsyn. Davis plans to study Exercise Science at Northwestern.

Women's Soccer
Aliza Edwards (Spencer, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to join the women's soccer program at Northwestern.

A forward midfielder and defender from Spencer High School, Edwards scored seven goals and had seven assists for her career. She also played for the Cedar Valley club team.

"I chose Northwestern because of the good community and it is close to home," said Edwards.

She is the daughter of Robin and Brian, and sister to Jazmine, Boaz, and Azra. Edwards plans to study Nursing at Northwestern.

Angel Huisman (Orange City, Iowa) has announced her intention to attend Northwestern and join the women's soccer team.

A midfielder at MOC-Floyd Valley High School, Huisman is a three-year varsity letter winner for the Lady Dutch. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

"I chose Northwestern because of the great environment and the close-knit community, along with the great nursing program," noted Huisman.

She is the daughter of Brian Huisman and Marla and Brad TeGrootenhuis, and sister to Brandon. Huisman plans to study Nursing at Northwestern.

Women's Tennis
Maddy Warning (Bloomfield, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to join the women's tennis program at Northwestern.

A four-year tennis player at Davis County High School, Warning went 5-0 in her most recent season. She has been a member of a conference championship team, was the individual conference runner-up, and is a First Team All-District honoree. Additionally, Warning is an Academic All-Conference selection, an academic honor roll student, and a member of the National Honor Society.

"I chose Northwestern because my faith is the most important aspect of my life, and I love how Northwestern values the integration of faith in their classrooms and across campus," Warning commented.

She is the daughter of Brian and Margie Warning, and sister to Reegan and Abby. Warning plans to study Elementary Education and Youth Ministry at Northwestern.

Wrestling
Gabe Cauthron (Spencer, Iowa) has announced his intention to attend Northwestern College and join the wrestling team.

Wrestling at 125 at Spencer High School, Cauthron has over 103 career wins and went 33-11 last season. He was given the "Most Dedicated Wrestler" and "Mr. Hustle" team awards and is also a member of the National Honor Society and academic honor roll.

"I chose Northwestern because there are great relationships with guys on the wrestling team," Cauthron said. "I love wrestling and overall this seems like a place where I can succeed."

He is the son of Randy and Leah, and brother to Skye, Hunter, Luc, and current Raider wrestler Case Cauthron.

Coy DeBoer (Archer, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to join the Red Raider wrestling program.

A multi-sport athlete at Sheldon High School, DeBoer was a state qualifier, placing eighth, and First Team All-Conference wrestler. Most recently, he posted a 43-win season, winning 151 bouts for his career. DeBoer is also an honor roll student.

"I appreciated the family-like atmosphere and I thought Northwestern would be a good fit for me," DeBoer commented.

He is the son of Don and Shana, and brother to Jalyn, Jager, and Jorja. DeBoer plans to study Business at Northwestern.

Maddox Stevens (Weiser, Idaho) has announced his intention to join the Northwestern wrestling program.

Stevens posted a 137-34 record at Weiser High School and was a three-time state qualifier and a finalist in 2023.

"I chose Northwestern because of the way it felt like family when I stepped on campus," Stevens said.

He is the son of Nicole McElroy and Mike Stevens, and brother to Dublin. Stevens plans to study Biology – Health Professions at Northwestern.
