PREVIEW: Women's Tennis GPAC Tournament

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The field for the 2023 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) women's tennis tournament has been announced, and No. 5-seeded Northwestern (8-10, 3-4 GPAC) will face the No. 4 seed in Concordia (Neb.) (12-8, 4-3 GPAC) on Friday, April 28 at the Genesis Health Club in Omaha, Nebraska.
 
Friday's quarterfinal match will begin at 9:00 a.m.
 
QUARTERFINAL MATCHUP
The Raiders and Bulldogs meet in the GPAC tournament on the heels of a 4-3 Concordia win in their matchup on April 22. The Bulldogs took the doubles point, while the two teams split their singles points. Olya Furmanova (Fr., Minsk, Belarus), Wynne Vandersall (Sr., Martelle, Iowa), and Ainslie Robinson (So., Luverne, Minn.) all earned singles wins. The full box score can be found linked above.
 
SEASON STATS
Vandersall has paced the team with a 12-5 record this season, mostly coming from the No. 4 singles slot. She has won 10 of her last 11 singles matches, also being a member of the Raiders' No. 2 doubles team with Furmanova, holding a record of 9-7.
 
In the No. 1 singles position, Furmanova is 6-11. Julia Anderson (So., Rapid City, S.D.) has split her time at No. 2 and No. 3, playing well as of late and winning seven matches on the year.
 
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
This year marks Northwestern's first GPAC tournament appearance since 2019, which was the program's first year under the direction of head coach Jamie De Jong. Their best performance at the conference tournament came in the 2014-15 season, when the Raiders won the postseason championship.
