Midland Topples Raiders in Spring Home Opener

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – After opening Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play winning two of three, the Northwestern women's tennis team (7-8, 2-2 GPAC) lost a tough match to (RV) Midland (24-8, 9-2 GPAC) in their spring home opener on Friday afternoon.

Midland took the doubles point to get the match started, winning two of the three in 6-2 decisions, and taking the No. 1 slot 6-1.

Despite having competitive singles matches, the Raiders were not able to take any sets as Midland swept the six singles slots. Olya Furmanova (Fr., Minsk, Belarus), Julia Kutz (So., Sheridan, Wyo.), and Julia Anderson (So., Rapid City, S.D.) each pushed their second sets to two-game decisions, while Wynne Vandersall (Sr., Martelle, Iowa) saw her impressive seven-game singles winning streak come to an end.
