How It Happened
Northwestern won their lone contest of the day, defeating Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) (8-6, 0-0 CCAC) with a sixth-inning RBI from Maddie Kvatek (Jr., Stevens Point, Wis.).

Jennifer Boeve (Sr., Hastings, Neb.) kicked things off from the leadoff spot for Northwestern, opening the game with a single to left, while Gwen Mikkelsen (Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz.) reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs and Mikkelsen on third due to a passed ball, Emily Strasser (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) singled to left to pick up the RBI and give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Olivet Nazarene found a way to score on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first, tying the game at 1-1 following a leadoff single and a defensive error.

The Tigers scored again in the second inning, taking a 2-1 lead on an RBI single with two outs and a runner on third.

In a battle that continued to unfold through the first three innings, Northwestern answered with their second run of the game, as Boeve set the table for another productive inning. After she reached in the leadoff spot, Madysn Grotewold (Jr., Larchwood, Iowa) bunted Boeve over, who later advanced to third on a passed ball. Mikkelsen, although grounding out in the next at-bat, secured the RBI on the play and made the score 2-2.

Baserunners were difficult to come by over the next three innings, as both pitching staffs were solid, but the Raiders broke back onto the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, using back-to-back walks by Mikkelsen and Strasser before Maddie Kvatek laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Mikkelsen from third.
Kameryn Etherington (Jr., Algona, Iowa) entered the circle in the sixth for the Raiders, only allowing one hit in the sixth and shutting down the side in the seventh to give Northwestern its 19th win of the year.

Game Notes

"We had a lot of different people step up today," said senior infielder Jennifer Boeve. "We had girls pitch in big situations who hadn't had a lot of experience with that yet. You could feel that we wanted it more. When you play three days in a row, the toughest team wins and that was us today. We weren't perfect but we used our emotions to our advantage."

Up Next: Northwestern will have the day off tomorrow before playing against York (Neb.) and Dickinson State (N.D.) on Friday in Tucson.
