Red Raiders Pick Up a Pair of Shutouts in Arizona

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – The newly ranked No. 17 Northwestern College softball team (21-2, 0-0 GPAC) picked up their 20th win of the season down in Arizona this afternoon as the Spring Break trip continues, as the Red Raiders picked up a pair of 8-0 five inning wins over York College (Neb.) and Dickinson State University (N.D.).

  • NWC improves to 18-2 in day games this season, while improving to 7-0 in games where they score 6-9 runs in a game.

How It Happened
The winning ways, and shutouts, continued in the second game of the day, as win No. 21 came via an 8-0 five inning way over Dickinson State University (N.D.).
 
Gwen Mikkelsen (Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz.) got the Raiders on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, quickly making it 1-0. In the second, again, Mikkelsen would drive in a pair of runs with an RBI single. Later, Emily Strasser (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) would double in a run, making it 4-0 NWC.
 
A Chloe Gallegos (So., Carroll, Iowa) RBI ground out in the fifth inning makes it 5-0, as the Red Raiders would bring the game to an end with three runs in the top half of the fifth to make it 8-0.
 
Game Notes
  • Northwestern has now tallied seven shutout wins on the campaign.
  • NWC scores first for the 17th time this season, improving to 16-1 (2-0 on the day).
  • Gwen Mikkelsen had four RBIs on the day, going 1-for-2 with two sacrifice flys.
