Northwestern Opens Weekend with Win at Grand View

URBANDALE, Iowa – The doubles point proved to be the difference in tonight's match as Northwestern (4-6, 0-0 GPAC) downed Grand View (6-4, 0-0 Heart) on the road in nonconference action.

The Raiders took two out of three doubles, as the No. 2 slot of Olya Furmanova (Fr., Minsk, Belarus) and Wynne Vandersall (Sr., Martelle, Iowa) won 6-3, and the No. 3 team of Ainslie Robinson (So., Luverne, Minn.) and Grace Twelmeyer (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa) swept their set to give Northwestern the doubles point.

Northwestern and Grand View split the singles matches 3-3, as Vandersall, Julia Anderson (So., Rapid City, S.D.), and Hannah Beckloff (Fr., Rapid City, S.D.) each picked up wins. After going 1-1 in her first two sets, Anderson won a decisive third set 10-7 to earn a team point, while Vandersall was dominant, only giving up one game over two sets. Beckloff won 6-3 and 6-1 to earn another point for the Raiders.

Full results are linked at the top of the story.
