Raiders Drop Road Contest in Regular Season Finale

Northwestern earns No. 4 seed in GPAC tournament

HASTINGS, Neb. – With a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tournament spot on the line, Hastings (15-13, 8-12 GPAC) put an end to Northwestern's (20-8, 13-7 GPAC) four-game winning streak in the final game of the regular season.

The Raiders will receive the No. 4 seed for the GPAC quarterfinals, hosting Concordia (Neb.), while Hastings will travel to Jamestown as the No. 8 seed.

The game was neck-and-neck from the beginning, with Northwestern jumping out to their largest lead of the game at the 13-minute mark of the first half, as a Matt Onken (R-Jr., Marshall, Minn.) layup made the score 14-10 in favor of the Raiders.

Later in the half, after Hastings took a 27-22 lead with seven minutes to go until halftime, Northwestern put together a quick 7-1 run with a three from Keyton Moser (Jr., Hull, Iowa) to put the Raiders up 29-28. Hastings was looking to take the lead back into the half before Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) tied the game at 32-32 with a three, followed by a Conner Geddes (So., Harrisburg, S.D.) layup to give his team a 34-32 advantage into the break.

The game flipped back-and-forth through the opening minutes of the second half, until Hastings went on a 9-1 scoring run to take their largest lead of the game at 57-50 with 8:12 to go.

Onken continued his dominance on the offensive side, helping the Raiders tie the game late with a three and a shot off the glass. With the score knotted at 61-61, the Broncos scored six of the next seven points, pushing themselves into the GPAC tournament.

"We needed to make a couple of plays," noted head coach Kris Korver. "It was a tough one on the road. Hastings needed to win this game to get into the GPAC tournament. We have to give them credit. They battled all night."
