Concordia Duo Stifles Raiders in GPAC Quarterfinals

Sterk leads NWC in scoring with 29 points

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – A career night for Concordia's (18-11, 11-9 GPAC) Noah Schutte gave the Bulldogs a win over fourth-seeded Northwestern (20-9, 13-7 GPAC) in the quarterfinal round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) men's basketball tournament.

The visitors were scorching the nets from the get-go, scoring nine of their first 13 points on three-pointers to move out to a 13-2 lead, cut off by a layup from Matt Onken (R-Jr., Marshall, Minn.). The Raiders eventually moved within ten points on a Zach LaFave (Jr., Elkhorn, Neb.) corner three to make the score 16-7, however Concordia answered with three-straight threes to push their lead to 16 points. Northwestern reached an eight-point deficit again later in the half on a Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) jumper, but the Bulldogs ended up taking an 18-point lead into the break.

Concordia continued to extend their lead after halftime, using a Garrett Seagren three to take a 27-point lead with 14:07 on the clock, their largest advantage of the night.

Northwestern had one final push left, using a 17-6 run over six minutes bookended by baskets from Conner Geddes (So., Harrisburg, S.D.) to make the score 80-66 with six minutes to play. It was Concordia, however, who had the final word, walking out of the Bultman Center with a berth in the GPAC semifinals.
