Raiders Win Second-Straight Match; Down Lancers in Non-League Match

YANKTON, S.D. – The Northwestern College men's tennis team (5-1, 0-0 GPAC) won their third-straight match, downing the Mount Marty Lancers (0-2, 0-0 GPAC) in a non-conference clash up in Yankton, S.D. this evening.

The two teams met back in the fall season, where it was the Red Raiders dominating in a 7-0 victory. The Lancers would bring more of a fight this evening on their home courts.
Northwestern came out strong, taking the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 2. David Bomgaars (So., Aurora, Colo.) and Leandro Costa (Fr., Caratinga, Brazil) took down Mount Marty's Lindeque and Gonsor to pick up the win at No. 1 (6-4), while Brian VandenBerg (Sr., Mason City, Iowa) and Arthur Vicente (Fr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 7-5 over MMU's Wagner and Gomez.

The Lancers took the first two singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2, bringing the score in favor of MMU (2-1). However, two-straight wins for the Raiders by Costa at No. 3 (6-2, 7-5) and Vicente at No. 4 (6-1, 7-5).

Mount Marty would again tie it up at 3-3 with a win at No. 5, bringing it to a winner-take-all No. 6 match. Northwestern's Noah Roisum (Jr., Rapid City, S.D.) would down Daniel Anderico 6-1, 7-6(1-0) in tiebreaks to give the Raiders the 4-3 match victory.

Up Next: Northwestern will play again in the state of South Dakota on Friday, February 17 when they battle National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II foe Augustana (S.D.) in Sioux Falls at 6:30 p.m.
