Eleven Raiders Score in Dominant Victory Over CSM

Northwestern wins 14th straight game over CSM

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Leading from start to finish this evening, the No. 20-ranked Northwestern College women's basketball team (16-7, 11-6 GPAC) got back in the win column with a 83-59 rout of the College of Saint Mary inside the Bultman Center Wednesday evening.
Northwestern waited no time jumping out to an early lead, scoring the first nine points of the game thanks to a pair of layups from Molly Schany (Jr., Emmetsburg, Iowa) and a three-pointer from Maddie Jones (Sr., Twin Lakes, Iowa). Unlike the seven-point first quarter on Monday, the Red Raiders erupted for 30 points in the first ten minutes tonight. Schany and Jones combined for 14 points, while the Flames only put up 15 points as a team and NWC shot 52.4% from the floor in the quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, a Taylor VanderVelde (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) ignited Northwestern to build up their lead as they would push it up to a 27-point lead at the halftime break (50-23). The VanderVelde layup would ignite NWC on a 14-0 run to completely take control of the game. Again, it was Schany and Jones doing a bulk of the scoring in the first half, combing for 27 first half points. Jones herself shot a blistering 5-for-6 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from deep.

The second half allowed for some underclassmen to get some valuable in-game minutes to build up experience, but it was all Northwestern in the final two quarters. The Raiders would lead by 20+ for all but 40 seconds in that third quarter, and only then it was a 19-point advantage (64-45) with under a minute left in the third.

The fourth quarter was more of the same, as the Red Raiders would hold onto their 20+ point lead and would prevail 83-59. It marks the 14th-straight win over CSM and seventh-straight in Orange City, as head coach Kristin Rotert improves to 4-0 in her career against the Flames.
