Raiders Dominate at Home Against Dakota Wesleyan

Van Kalsbeek nears triple-double, Moser hits career-high

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – After dropping their first game of the season last time out, the No. 13 Red Raiders (8-1, 4-1 GPAC) responded with a resounding win over Dakota Wesleyan (6-6, 2-4 GPAC) on Wednesday in the Bultman Center. Alex Van Kalsbeek stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, leading all players in each category.

"It was an excellent defensive effort by our guys," noted head coach Kris Korver. "Our unselfish ball movement helped us get 28 assists. It was a lot of fun to see our guys compete defensively and play so unselfishly."

Northwestern never trailed in the win, beginning the night on an 8-0 run with back-to-back threes for Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) and Kaleb Booth (So., Carroll, Iowa). The lead reached double-digits for the first time on a Carlson trey, one of his four on the night, to go up 13-3. Four of the next five Northwestern buckets were of the three-point variety, helping the Raiders open the lead to 22-7. Zach LaFave (Jr., Elkhorn, Neb.) later put an exclamation point on the run with an alley-oop dunk off the feed from Carlson to stretch the lead to 25. For the first time this season, Northwestern reached 50 points in the first half, leading 56-31 at the break.

Out of the locker room, Northwestern turned to Van Kalsbeek (So., Sheldon, Iowa) to set the tone for the second half, as the big man scored the first four points of the second. The lead hit 30 points for the first time on a Van Kalsbeek layup with 15:34 on the game clock, while Keyton Moser (Sr., Hull, Iowa) hit his second three of the night, part of his career-high 12 points, one minute later to give Northwestern a 72-44 advantage.

Getting contributions across the rotation, Northwestern saw Conner Geddes (Jr., Harrisburg, S.D.) reach double-figures for the second time in three games, while Marcus Kelderman (So., Boyden, Iowa), Hunter Berry (Sr., Bolivar, Mo.), and Nathan Koole (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) also entered the scoring column.
