Men’s Basketball Enters Christmas Break with Home Win

Five Raiders score in double-figures

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Five players reached double-figures and Northwestern had their best shooting night of the season, as the No. 13-ranked Red Raiders (9-1, 5-1 GPAC) defeated Doane (3-8, 1-6 GPAC) in the Bultman Center on Saturday night.

Northwestern was on fire from beyond the arc to start the evening, with Kaleb Booth (So., Carroll, Iowa) and Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) trading threes to open up a 9-4 lead in the opening two minutes. Doane's Brady Timm answered with a 4-for-4 start to the game, helping the Tigers gain a 13-9 edge on a 9-0 run. After re-gaining the lead on a Zach LaFave (Jr., Elkhorn, Neb.) bucket in the paint, the Red Raiders slowly added to their lead through the final 10 minutes of the half. In the closing minutes, Carlson went on a 5-0 run of his own before Conner Geddes (Jr., Harrisburg, S.D.) knocked down a three in the waning seconds to give Northwestern its largest lead at 39-29 at halftime.

"Doane is a team that can be frustrating, but our guys stayed the course and we did some good things to open it up and finish the first half strong," said head coach Kris Korver.

The second half saw the Raider advantage remaining in double-digits for a majority of the 20-minute period, with Alex Van Kalsbeek (So., Sheldon, Iowa) skying for a thunderous slam in the opening minute to set the tone. Keyton Moser (Sr., Hull, Iowa), in his second consecutive start, hit a wing three to go up by 13, while Geddes later added three treys in less than four minutes, pushing the lead to 59-42.

"When you get into a place where you're leading by double-digits, you want to try and break it open," Korver commented. "I thought our guys took one play at a time and did a good job being faithful and doing the little things throughout the game."

Northwestern's largest lead was 23, taking an 82-59 lead with 3:43 in the contest, as the Raiders hit their second-highest point total of the year in an 86-70 win.
