Rematch Set in NAIA National Championship; Red Raiders to Battle Seahawks

Game set for 12:00 PM (ET)/11:00 AM (CT) on Monday, December 18

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Making their second-straight trip and third trip in four seasons, the top-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Northwestern College football team (14-0, 10-0 GPAC) will once again battle the No. 3-ranked Seahawks of Keiser University (Fla.) (11-2, 7-0 SUN) in the NAIA Battle for the Red Banner in the national championship game from Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.

  • Northwestern and Keiser set for a 2022 NAIA national championship game rematch on December 18.
  • NWC looks for their third undefeated season (1983, 1973) (as a four-year institution, since 1960).
  • NWC is coming off their seventh-straight FCS win with a 35-10 win over Georgetown (Ky.).
  • The Red Raiders win streak is up to 27-straight games.
  • The 10 interceptions from Cody Moser continues to hold the national lead.

AFCA/NAIA ALL-AMERICANS
  • The Red Raiders saw four athletes honored by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and NAIA All-American teams.
  • Jalyn Gramstad highlighted the honorees with his AFCA/NAIA First Team (QB) All-American honors.
  • AFCA/NAIA Second Team Honorees included Konner McQuillan (RB) and Cody Moser (DB).
  • Michael Storey was tabbed a NAIA Third Team (WR) honoree.
AFCA NAIA REGION IV COACH OF THE YEAR
  • Announced on Wednesday, HC Matt McCarty was named the AFCA NAIA Region IV Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
  • It marks his third-career NAIA Region Coach of the Year honor.
  • He was the 2022 AFCA NAIA National Coach of the Year after leading the program to their first national title since 1983.
2023 GPAC CHAMPIONS!
  • For the first time since the 1996 season, back when the conference was the NIAC, the Northwestern College football team are the outright conference champions!
  • It marks the first outright GPAC title in program history – tied for the title in 2000 and 2014.
  • It's the first GPAC title for head coach Matt McCarty, to go along with his 2022 NAIA National Championship.
  • The Red Raiders will be presented their championship trophy and banner following the game on Saturday.
THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER
  • The Red Raider offense has three key weapons on offense that can all explode onto the scene, making it a nightmare for opposing defenses to game plan for the Northwestern offense.
  • Of the 69 offensive touchdowns scored this season, 44 (64%) have come from the trio of Gramstad, McQuillan, and Storey.  
  • Jalyn Gramstad leads the league in total passing yards (3,381), completion percentage (70.7%), and passing touchdowns (33).
  • He surpassed 3,000 passing yards for the first time in a season in his career.
  • Konner McQuillan continues to lead the conference in rushing touchdowns (18) and is second in the conference in rushing yards per game (91.4).
  • He's notched SIX 100-yard rushing yard games this season.
  • He also sits fifth all-time at NWC in career rushing yards (3,584).
  • Michael Storey continues to sit atop the GPAC in receiving touchdowns (16).
  • His super-senior year has been the most productive of his career, holding the most receiving yards (1,354) in a season while at NWC (1,146 in 2022).
  • He leads the program in career receptions (297); sits second in program history in receiving yards (4,549) and third in receiving touchdowns (45).
RECORD BOOK WATCH

    • Moves up to eighth all-time in career passing yards (5,937).
    • He's just the 10th Red Raider quarterback to notch 5,000 career passing yards.
    • Moves sits seventh all-time in passing TDs (58).
    • With his rushing score against SXU, he moves into 10th all-time in career rushing TDs (31).
  • Konner McQuillan has moved into fifth all-time in program history in career rushing yards (3,584).
    • He sits fourth in program history in career rushing scores (49).
    • He looks to become just the fourth Red Raider to have 50 or more rushing scores.
  • Michael Storey has passed C. Moser for second all-time in career receiving yards (4,549).
    • He passed Solberg for the program's all-time leader in career receptions in the FCS win over Dordt.
    • Entering the FCS, he's on the hunt to pass Solberg for the program's all-time receiving yards mark, needing 227 yards to break the record.
    • He remains on the hunt for chasing down Moser and S. Solberg for career TD receptions (47 & 49, respectively), sitting with 45.
    • He's just the third Red Raider to have 40 or more receiving touchdowns in their career.
  • Cody Moser needs just four interceptions to crack the program's top-10 all-time INT list.
CODY MOSER – THE BALL HAWK
  • Converted cornerback turned safety, Cody Moser has made the transition this season look effortless this season.
  • His 10 interceptions continues to lead the NAIA.
  • His 10th INT against SXU tied the program single-season record (records only available back to 1998).
  • His two interceptions against Hastings was his first-career multi-interception game.
  • He recorded his second multi-interception game (2) against Dakota Wesleyan (Nov. 4).
  • He had a streak of four-straight games with a pick this season.
  • In his Red Raider career, he's recorded 12 interceptions.
  • He now needs just five picks to crack the top-10 all-time list in Red Raider football history.
EVEN BIGGER WIN IN DES MOINES
  • Northwestern downed NCAA FCS Drake back on September 9, 27-24, in overtime.
  • After starting the season with three-straight losses, the Bulldogs ran the table in the Pioneer Football League (PFL) with an 8-0 record to receiver the league's automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
  • Keiser boasts three major SUN Conference award winners in Freshman of the Year (Christian Ware), Coach of the Year (Doug Socha), and Special Teams Player of the Year (Wendol Philord).
  • KU relies heavily on their run game, which sits top-10 in the NAIA (9th) at 251.1 yards per game (surprisingly, that mark sat third in The SUN).
  • Jaden Meizinger (Sr., RB) paces the Seahawk rushing attack, being one of three SUN athletes with 100+ rushing yards per game (106.1) and has 1,409 yards and 22 touchdowns on the season.
  • His 22 rushing scores sits third in the NAIA.
  • The Seahawks also have the top-3 SUN Conference leaders in pass break-ups in Louis Lubin II (13) and Justin Carcel and Kensley Johnson each have 12 break-ups.
  • Keiser's run defense is stout at 98.8 rushing yards allowed per game (14th in NAIA), but have allowed 210.2 passing yards per contest.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Northwestern and Keiser will meet for just the second time in program history (NWC leads 1-0).
  • The two teams met in the 2022 NAIA national championship game, NWC prevailing 35-25 in Durham.
  • McCarty is 1-0 against the Seahawks.
