Haverdink Competes at NAIA National Championship

VANCOUVER, Wash. – No stranger to tough competition, sophomore standout Emily Haverdink made her second NAIA Championships appearance, qualifying first as a freshman last year.

"This particular course was quite challenging compared to most other courses the team has raced at this year" commented Scott Bahrke. "Super proud of her efforts and what she, and the rest of the team accomplished this year. Excited to get the indoor season going and see what the men's and women's team can do this year."

Overall, Haverdink would finish in 119th place, but eighth among the GPAC runners. Coming through the 1K mark, she was in 86th, across in 3:36, and by the 2K mark would be up to 80th, her highest place for the race. Settling into her pace and starting to run against some hills on the course, Haverdink would run her third 1000m in 4:09 and drop to 97th place. By the 4K mark, run in 4:00, she would fall five more spots, to 102, just outside the top 100. Fighting another hill, Haverdink would come through the 5K mark in 19:55 in 116th place, and through the last effort sprint, finish in 119th over the entire 6K distance. Her final time was 23:46.3.

Up Next: The next competition will be the indoor track and field Bulldog Early Bird in Seward, Nebraska on December 9-10.
