Northwestern Set to Take On Briar Cliff in Sioux City

Michael Storey leads the NAIA in receiving yards per game entering Week 7

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The top-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Northwestern College football team (6-0, 5-0 GPAC) will play their second to last regular season road game this weekend when they travel to Sioux City, Iowa for the 21st all-time meeting with the Briar Cliff Chargers (2-4, 2-3 GPAC) on Saturday. NWC NOTABLES
  • Northwestern hits the road for Sioux City for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with the Briar Cliff Chargers on Saturday.
  • NWC has started the season 6-0 for the 12th time in program history and fourth time under McCarty.
  • Northwestern is one of 10 unbeaten NAIA schools heading into Week 7 of the season.
  • Michael Storey is on the hunt for 4,000 career receiving yards, sitting at 3,994 entering the game Saturday.
  • He would be just the third Raider to notched 4,000+ yards in his career.
  • Storey also leads the NAIA in receiving yards per game at 124.8, having four 100+-yard receiving games this season.
  • NWC has recorded an interception in 12-straight games and has forced at least one opponent turnover in 24-straight games.

GPAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • Junior safety Cody Moser brings home the first GPAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade of the season for the Red Raiders.
  • He had two INTs in the win over Hastings, including an 85-yard pick-six.
  • The pick-six was the fifth-longest INT returned for a touchdown in program history.
  • He's the fifth Red Raider to earn a weekly honor on the season.
FAST STARTS
  • Northwestern has gotten off to fast starts in 2023, outscoring opponents 51-10 in the first quarter this season.
  • Only Concordia (Neb.) and Midland has scored on the Red Raider defense in the first quarter.
  • NWC has held four opponents (Drake, Doane, Mount Marty, Hastings) scoreless in the first 15 minutes of play.
CODY MOSER – THE BALL HAWK
  • Converted cornerback turned safety, Cody Moser has made the transition this season look effortless this season.
  • His five interceptions sits tied for the NAIA lead through the first six weeks of the season.
  • His two interceptions against Hastings was his first-career multi-interception game.
  • He's now recorded an INT in three-straight games for the Red Raider defense.
NAIA COACHES' POLL
  • In the fifth regular season poll, three GPAC teams continue to be ranked in the top-25: Northwestern (No. 1), Morningside (No. 3), and Dordt (No. 22).
  • Poll 5 marks the 30th-straight week NWC has been ranked inside the top-5, dating back to May 17, 2021.
  • It's now 70-straight week the Red Raiders have been ranked inside the top-25.
  • The program record is 72-straight weeks inside the top-25.
  • For the fifth-straight poll, NWC has received all 18 first-place votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.

  • Saturday calls for the temperatures to stay in the 50s, with a high of 52 degrees (as of Monday afternoon).
