Raiders Rally to Defeat No. 9 Jamestown

LaFave secures first-career double-double

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – It took another come-from-behind effort for the Raiders, but Northwestern (11-4, 4-3 GPAC) rallied from 15 points down to pick up the win over No. 9 Jamestown (12-3, 4-3 GPAC) on Friday night. The win marked the third time this season that the Raiders won after trailing by 15+ points (at Mayville State, vs. Briar Cliff.).

The Jimmies built up a sizeable advantage in the first half, jumping out to an 18-8 lead in the opening six minutes. Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.), however, kept Northwestern afloat by scoring the first 18 Raider points and 23 of Northwestern's 25 in the first half. The Raiders trailed 37-22, their largest deficit, with 29 seconds to go before halftime before Sterk hit a three with the clock ticking down to make the score 37-25 at the break.

With the three before halftime, Northwestern put together a 12-4 run to cut the deficit to just five points at 39-34. Both teams traded buckets over the next eight minutes before Northwestern cut the Jamestown lead to just four on a pair of layups from Matt Onken (R-Jr., Marshall, Minn.). With the score at 50-44 at the eight-minute mark, Zach LaFave (Jr., Elkhorn, Neb.) started a run that saw Conner Geddes (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) drill consecutive threes, giving Northwestern their first lead since the 18:24 point of the first half.

The Raiders never relinquished their advantage the rest of the way, putting together key defensive stops and offensive opportunities in the final minutes.

Jamestown last threatened with 1:40 remaining when a Will Cordes two made the score 56-54, but LaFave, Onken, and Geddes hit important shots down the stretch.

"It was a gutsy win," commented head coach Kris Korver. "Our guys competed in that second half. It was a good team win on our home floor against a very good team."

Tonight's win was the first win over a ranked opponent since January 22, 2022, when Northwestern defeated No. 25 Concordia (Neb.).
