Raiders Split at Jamestown Duals

Francksen-Small, Jenness, and Lind all go 2-0

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Northwestern wrestling team (3-5, 2-2 GPAC) traveled north for a pair of duals on Friday, defeating conference foe Jamestown, 19-18 and falling to Dickinson State (N.D.), 26-12 in non-conference action.

In the opening dual with Dickinson State, the Raiders fell behind early, dropping the first three bouts as the Blue Hawks got out to a 10-0 lead. Northwestern got a win from Noah Parmelee (Fr., Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) at 149 before Dickinson State earned a win by fall to receive six important points. Despite wins at 174, 184, and 197 from Jake Francksen-Small (So., Merrill, Iowa), Luke Jenness (Sr., Primghar, Iowa), and Kaleb Lind (So., Lindenhurst, Ill.), respectively, Dickinson State won by fall in the heavyweight class to close the match.

Searching for a bounce-back win, Northwestern turned around to face the hosts in Jamestown. Northwestern took two of the first three classes with wins by Sean Heeney (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa) and Johnny Burnette (Fr., Spirit Lake, Iowa) to jump out to a 9-4 lead. Trailing 15-9 heading into the final four weight classes, Francksen-Small, Jenness, and Lind each picked up their second wins of the day to push the Raiders ahead 19-15. Jamestown took a decision in the 285 spot, allowing Northwestern to escape with their second Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) win of the season.

Jenness picked up his 16th and 17th wins on the year today, while also leading the team in match points with 24. His major decision was the difference-maker in the win over the Jimmies. Lind now has 14 wins on the year after a 2-0 outing today.

"It was a good end of the night with a solid team win," commented head coach Rik Dahl. "We had to rebound after a tough loss to Dickinson – they were a very stingy and physical team. Kaleb, Jake, and Luke each walked away with two wins. Luke's bonus point against Jamestown made the difference. I'm super proud of Lincoln and his gritty match against a solid heavyweight to seal the deal."
