Women's Tennis Dominant in Fall Season Opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Northwestern opened up their team fall season at Buena Vista this afternoon after competing at the GPAC Individual Championships a week ago. The Raiders won in a 7-0 decision, taking all singles victories in two sets and winning each of three doubles matches 8-0.

The Raiders were led in the No. 1 spot by freshman Olya Furmanova (Minsk, Belarus), who defeated Buena Vista's Alexis McGinnis 6-0 and 6-1. The highest scoring margin on the day belonged to Emma Montenegro (Paramount, Calif.) as she took both sets against Taylar Fritz by a score of 6-0.

Northwestern's doubles teams also saw successful outings as Julia Kutz (Sheridan, Wyo.) and Julia Anderson (Rapid City, S.D.) took an 8-0 victory in the No. 1 spot, Furmanova and Wynne Vandersall (Martelle, Iowa) won in the second group, and Ainslie Robinson (Luverne, Minn.) and Hannah Beckloff (Rapid City, S.D.) swept out of the third line.

"The Raider women came out strong, not dropping any sets to the Beavers," said head coach Jamie De Jong. "All Raider doubles teams managed to hold on to all games, 8-0. I was happy to see these ladies bring home a Raider win."
