Raiders Stay Perfect at Home; Down Briar Cliff 3-0

Jazlin De Haan led the match with 15 kills

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 7-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (11-3, 3-2 GPAC) bounced back at home tonight with a straight sets victory (25-14, 25-20, 25-10) over the Chargers of Briar Cliff University (5-8, 0-3 GPAC) to pick up their 11th win of the season, as they remain perfect inside the Bultman Center on the season.
Emmy Wedgbury (So., Cedar Falls, Iowa) was the spark the Red Raiders needed in the first set, when the Chargers held the early 9-6 lead. A setting error would put Wedgbury back to serve (9-7), and the Raiders would pick five straight points to take the 12-10 lead. Olivia Granstra (So., Sheldon, Iowa) would attempt to one-up Wedgbury, and she would as the Raiders rallied off eight-straight points to take total control of the set at 24-13, winning it 25-14.

Briar Cliff would hit at their best clip of the match in the second set at .320, but NWC found a way to take the 25-20 victory to go up 2-0. Jazlin De Haan (So., Orange City, Iowa) and Macay Van't Hul (Jr., Rock Valley, Iowa) would both lead the way with three kills in the set.

In what would be the final set of the night, Northwestern stepped on the gas pedal. Up 4-3 early in the set, another run with Granstra handling serving duties, taking seven-straight points to push their lead up 11-3. NWC would never look back. The Raiders kept the pressure on, as De Haan notched more kills in the final set (8) then she had in the first two sets (7).

On the match, the Red Raider defense was blistering – holding the Chargers to negative hitting percentages in two of the three sets.
