Northwestern Dominant in Final Nonconference Test

Story Links

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – Northwestern (4-2-0, 0-0-0 GPAC) ended their nonconference slate on Saturday against York (Neb.) (0-4-1, 0-0-0 KCAC), picking up a 2-0 win at home.

The Raiders led in nearly all offensive categories, outshooting the Panthers 28-12 and attempting 18 shots on goal. Northwestern also had five corner kick opportunities.

"I thought the ladies did pretty well today," noted head coach Shannon Andringa. "We definitely could have finished more of our opportunities, but I think it was a good last step before we start GPAC play on Wednesday."

The scoring opened 19 minutes into the contest when Julie Dunlap (Des Moines, Iowa) floated a pass ahead to Abby Noonan (Carlisle, Iowa), and Noonan found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Noonan's goal was preceded by four Raider shot attempts in five minutes, as the pressure put on by the Raiders contributed to the game's opening score.

As the Raiders continued to fire away toward the net throughout the second half, Northwestern found their way back on the scoreboard when Dunlap lobbed the ball from about 25 feet out over the outstretched arms of York's Alexa Moreno to make the score 2-0.

"Julie is a playmaker by nature and that showed today," Andringa commented. "She creates opportunities for us and makes the players around her better."
